What is Botox for Chronic Migraine?

Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a preventive, FDA-approved treatment specifically for adults with chronic migraine. It is not used for occasional (episodic) migraines. Unlike acute treatments that you take once a headache starts, Botox is a “prophylactic” therapy designed to prevent headaches before they even begin.

This treatment was rigorously tested in the pivotal PREEMPT clinical trials, which demonstrated that it significantly reduces the number of headache days per month for patients who experience 15 or more headache days (with at least 8 being migraines)
